[Financial News] On the 14th, President Lee Jae-myung expressed his gratitude to Incheon Mayor Park Chan-dae and Incheon City regarding the significant reduction in ferry fares for soldiers, police officers, and firefighters working in Incheon's island regions, following his own proposal.
Through X (formerly Twitter) on this day, President Lee stated, "To the beloved Mayor Park Chan-dae, members of the Incheon City Council, and the citizens of Incheon, I express my deepest gratitude to Incheon City for their consideration on behalf of our soldiers, police officers, and firefighters."
He added, "I support and love Incheon, the 'Haebulyangsu' (海不讓水)." Haebulyangsu means 'the sea accepts all waters without refusal.'
Incheon City is pursuing an amendment to the relevant enforcement rules so that professional soldiers, civilian employees of the military, police/firefighters, and public health doctors working in island areas can receive the same ferry fare benefits as Incheon citizens, even if they do not have a registered address in Incheon. Once the system is implemented, they will be able to use ferries for 1,500 won one-way without any limit on the number of uses.
This improvement in the system began with President Lee's proposal. After visiting a military unit on Yeonpyeong Island last June, President Lee pointed out the high burden of ferry fares for personnel stationed on the island and suggested reviewing support measures equivalent to those provided to Incheon citizens.
